View Full Version : Program Template vs Other Factors

Hello, I was just curious on people's thoughts on how important the program template is, vs other factors (exercise selection, RPE selection, repeat/load drop/rep drop selection, etc) - I am designing my first REP style program, but I am not sure if I should stick to the standard template and just be more concerned with the factors - or just have at it with the temple. For example, I was thinking of a general template like this for weeks 1-4

Monday
Prime SQ
Prime SQ Ast (ie: Pause Squats)
Prime SQ Supp (ie: Olympic-Style Squats)

Tuesday
Prime BP
Secondary BP Supp (ie: Close Grip BP)
Prime BP Ast (ie: Spotto Press)

Wednesday
Prime DL Ast
Prime DL Ast (ie: Block Pulls)
Prime SQ Supp (ie: Front Squats)

Thursday
Off

Friday
Prime SQ
Prime SQ Ast (ie: Pause Squats)
Prime SQ Supp (ie: Olympic Squats)
Secondary Bench Ast (ie: Board Press or Floor Press)

Trying to keep the deadlift frequency lower (don't need much of that to make good gains; and keep the SQ frequency as a high as I can handle - bench somewhere in the middle). Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Just curious... have you run at least one cycle with the standard template yet to see how it goes for you? I would suggest starting there if you haven't, then make tweaks as necessary.
